ROCKFORD — Construction is underway to build a QuikTrip gas station and truck stop with a full-service kitchen at Sandy Hollow Road and 11th Street on the city’s south side.
Chicago-based Vequity Construction took out a building permit for work at 1509 Sandy Hollow Road, which is property owned by First Midwest Group in front of the former Kmart that closed in April 2018.
It will be the second QuikTrip in the city. The first opened April 11 at 8070 E. State St. across from the future Hard Rock Casino.

The QuikTrip will have four diesel bays, eight bays dedicated to passenger vehicles and a 24-hour 5,300-square-foot convenience store and QT kitchen.
The food menu includes variety of breakfast burritos, croissants, barbecue sandwiches, tacos, subs, pretzels, pizzas and other grab-and-go options.
“It will be a place for food lovers, offering a full-service kitchen with a diverse menu of freshly prepared, high-quality meals that cater to different tastes and dietary preferences,” the company wrote in its proposal to City Council last year. “Whether you’re a traveler looking for a refreshing break or someone on the go, the gas station will also have a wide selection of ready-to-serve items such as grab-and-go snacks, freshly brewed coffee, and beverages, providing quick and delicious options for your journey or daily routines.”
QuikTrip is not to be mixed up with Kwik Trip, the chain of convenience stores headquartered in La Crosse, Wisconsin. QuikTrip was founded in 1958 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and has more than 1,000 stores in 17 states. It employs more than 31,000 people across the country, according to its website.
