ROCKFORD — QuikTrip plans to bring a new gas station and truck stop with a full-service kitchen to a vacant parking lot at the southwest corner of 11th Street and Sandy Hollow Road.
City Council members on Monday approved a special-use permit for the gas station, convenience store and truck stop at 1509 Sandy Hollow Road, which is property owned by First Midwest Group in front of a former Kmart. A timeline for construction wasn’t immediately available.
“This revitalization will not only beautify the area but also eliminate an eyesore, making it more inviting for residents and visitors alike,” QuikTrip wrote in its proposal to City Council.

The site is located just off the U.S. Highway 20 bypass and will have grab-and-go foods and a QT Kitchen with menu items ranging from sandwiches and tacos to pizza, wraps and subs.
“It will be a place for food lovers, offering a full-service kitchen with a diverse menu of freshly prepared, high-quality meals that cater to different tastes and dietary preferences,” the company wrote in its proposal.

The QuikTrip will have a 5,300-square-foot convenience store, four diesel bays and eight bays dedicated to passenger vehicles.
This is the second QuikTrip planned for Rockford. One is under construction at 8070 E. State St. across from the future Hard Rock Casino Rockford.

QuikTrip, not to be confused with the Wisconsin-based KwikTrip, is a privately held company headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It has more than 900 stores in 14 states, according to its website.
