As a non-snobby film grab from Columbia in Chicago, I have seen some pretty artsy films. Forget subtitles; try “non-narrative noir” – black and white visual montages where a linear story line can’t be seen for a million miles. Needless to say I can take some creative choices that don’t always seemingly make sense. This movie was a dud for me because they tried so hard to be unique; it was to the detriment of the story.
“No One Will Save You.” This is the movie I’m talking about. It teases you because the synopsis and trailer make it look really great.
Not to say there aren’t ANY good parts, but most of it is just disappointing – the reason? There is no dialogue in the movie, except one line before the final quarter of the film. This could be cool if there is a reason for it, but in this case there isn’t a reason I can think of. I also won’t go searching for one like some people. If there is not a message obvious for me to get without having to bust my brain, I won’t get it.
Being that there aren’t any words, it feels very long. I know this time of the year, people gamble on some movies they might not have seen before. “No One Will Save You” IS one you can skip. I recently watched “The Lodge” on Max. This is a decent scary movie to gamble on. You just might like it.
