ROCKFORD — Construction is underway to build an Aldi’s grocery store on the city’s west end.
The city issued a building permit May 31 valued at $3,045,679 for the project at 3801 W. Riverside Blvd. across from Walmart, according to city Building Department records.
The new store will replace Aldi’s location at 3831 Auburn St. and provide a larger space. The company now lists three Rockford locations on its website: 2680 20th St., 6650 E. State St. and West Riverside Boulevard, which will take the place of the closing Auburn Street store.

The West Riverside Boulevard location is expected to open next spring.
It will be similar to the Aldi that opened in March 2022 at 6350 Forest Hills Road in Loves Park. That replaced the Aldi at 5910 N. Second St. in Loves Park.
Aldi also has area stores in Roscoe, Machesney Park and Belvidere.
