CHERRY VALLEY — A sign on the door of Sonic Drive-In at the corner of Perryville Road and Harrison Avenue says it plans reopen this summer, but several months after closing there’s no indication of when or if it will reopen.
The location at 2137 S. Perryville Road closed in the winter for remodeling. The sign told customers it would reopen in summer 2022 and directed people to the Loves Park location.

However, no building permits have been issued for remodeling, according to county records. Efforts made by the Rock River Current to contact the franchise owner were unsuccessful.
A spokesperson for Sonic corporate said only that the location was temporarily closed, but they could not reach the franchisee. Calls to the location at 1602 E. Riverside Blvd. in Loves Park were not returned, and Cherry Valley Village Administrator Jim Claeyssen said he had no information on the restaurant.

The last building permit taken out by Sonic for the Cherry Valley location was in November 2020 for roof repairs, according to records from the Winnebago County Planning and Zoning Department.
The Sonic at 1602 E. Riverside Blvd. in Loves Park is the only operational location in the Rockford area. The Belvidere location closed in 2015.
