There is a new space-race underway between the United States and Russia. This time, it’s a race to make the first movie in space. Last year, Tom Cruise announced that he was teaming up with Elon Musk and NASA to make the first movie space, and now Russia is looking to beat him to the punch with a film called “Challenge.” They’ve already had a casting call and space training for the cast begins June 1st. From there, Russia plans to launch for shooting on October 5th. Your move, Cruise.
LEGO is set to release its largest Marvel set to-date. The set will contain 3,772 pieces, and stand over 32 inches tall. There will be three floors of offices, a back alley, a front street, and lots of LEGO Marvel figurines including Spider-Man, Mysterio, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Doctor Octopus, Blade & Daredevil. The set will go for $299.
Speaking of Marvel, they were all over the MTV Movie and TV Awards. WandaVision took Best TV Show, Elizabeth Olsen won for Best Performance in a Show for WandaVision, Best Hero went to Anthony Mackie for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Best Villain was Kathryn Hahn for her role as Agatha in WandaVision, and Best Duo went to Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The cheerleading comedy “Bring It On” is getting a horror installment. In 2022, look for “Bring It On: Halloween,” about a group of cheerleaders practicing in a creepy, closed gym, who one by one begin to disappear. No word on casting or a release date, but we can bet it will be Halloween 2022.
Amazon is looking to purchase MGM, which would put the conglomerate in charge of The James Bond franchise and others, and put them at the helm of the cable network Epix. The purchase would cost Amazon 7 to 10 billion. Which for Amazon…is chump change.
Early reviews are in for A Quiet Place 2. Over 40 reviews have hit Rotten Tomatoes and the consensus is: it’s good. 89% Fresh to be exact. Critics are saying it’s bigger than the first film and “immediately immersive,” and terrifying. Others have said that it feels contrived and that it just feels like a setup for a third film. Overall though, this looks like one we’ll be seeing.
The same cannot be said for the next installment in the Fast and Furious franchise, F9. It is coming in at only 60% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Positive critiques say the film is exhilarating. On the negative side, though, it’s a Fast and Furious film, so… fill in the blanks.
