ROCKFORD — The National Stuttering Association is launching a new Rockford Family Chapter designed to bring together youth who stutter and the families who support them.
It will hold its first meeting and family meetup from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Carlson Ice Arena, 4150 N. Perryville Road, in Loves Park.
The local chapter will be led by Jessica Steinberg and her 13-year-old son, Trace, who is a person who stutters. Their goal is to provide a welcome and supportive space where children and teens can connect and build their confidence.
“We want families to feel connected, understood and supported,” Steinberg said in a news release. “This chapter is about community encouragement and celebrating every child’s unique voice.”
The chapter also aims to serve as a resource for parents, offering opportunities to share experiences, exchange information and strengthen their support networks.
