Rockford couple opens new discount mattress store

ROCKFORD — A local couple has opened a new small business designed to give you a good night’s sleep at a low price.
Bob and Tammy Vettore have opened a Mattress by Appointment franchise at 274 N. Phelps Ave., which is in the business strip behind Culver’s along East State Street. The shop is on the back side of the building. There are more than 400 Mattress by Appointment locations around the country and each is locally owned and operated.
“So far we’re loving it,” Bob Vettore said. “We’re loving the people who we’re meeting, and we try to treat everyone like gold when they walk through our door.”
The company boasts offering prices at 50% to 80% off the retail price. Mattresses start $100 for a twin bed and can go up to $1,500 for a king, with financing available for $10 down.
The low prices are a function of the low overhead costs. There are no employees running the store for regular hours. You text, call or book an appointment online and then stop in the showroom to make a selection.
“It’s just my wife and myself. We just keep our overhead small so we can lower the price of the mattress to give people a good night’s sleep,” Bob Vettore said. “We help one family at a time. You come in and get the showroom all to yourself. Lay on these beds, take a nap, whatever makes you comfortable.”
The mattresses are American made by Sherwood Bedding, a division of Tempur+Sealy, and come in a range of softness and comfort levels.
“These are top of the line, Grade A mattresses,” Bob Vettore said. “We can compete with the big guys.”
