New Rockford shop offers mailing, shipping and resources to help small businesses grow

ROCKFORD — A new storefront in the shopping center near Valli Produce aims to be a one-stop resource for mailing, printing, packaging and a multitude of business service needs.
MAS Mail & Print Center is now open at 5970 E. State St., which is next to Oscar’s Pub & Grill in the complex with Valli, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet and other businesses. It quietly opened a few weeks ago, and a grand opening celebration is planned for after the holidays.
It has pack-and-ship services, notary public, private mailbox rental, document shredding, iPostal1 digital mailboxes, and printing for flyers, brochures, posters and other needs. It also offers graphic design, Clover point-of-sale systems and other services for small businesses.
“We are a one-stop shop from mailing to printing to helping small businesses grow,” said Mo Awad, who is the store’s owner and art director.
Awad, who earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic art and art design from Michigan State University, learned the needs of small businesses while in the restaurant industry, including running Da Catch in Belvidere. His family still owns Da Catch on West State Street. Now his company helps guide small businesses through everything from building their brand identity to designing logos and restaurant menus or getting placed on Google.
“It’s all about making them succeed in the community of Rockford,” he said.
MAS stands for Mo Awad Studio, a nod to his arts and graphic design background. He has also been a photographer for about a decade.
Some of his recent work was with 815 Kitchen, a family-owned restaurant that opened at 479 N. Springfield Ave. this summer, and Yasmin Al Sham, which is the new Syrian restaurant that filled Sunrise Family Restaurant space at 5683 Wansford Way.
He said he tries to build designs for companies that are simple, straightforward and clear in their message.
