LOVES PARK — Tacos El Jefe, a family-owned restaurant specializing in authentic Mexican food, celebrated its grand opening on Wednesday with the Parks Chamber of Commerce.
After starting with a soft opening last month, the Jaramillo family cut the ribbon Wednesday on the restaurant at 6566 E. State St. in Loves Park.
“We’ve been waiting for this day for so long, and we’ve very excited for the future,” said Jason Jaramillo, the restaurant’s general manager.
The building has gone through several restaurant iterations over the years, including a former KFC, Blazers Southwest Grill and most recently Fuji Cajun.
“It’s had a lot of different names,” Mayor Greg Jury said. “Hopefully this name will be the longstanding one.”
The Jaramillos own the restaurant with Ricardo Garcia. The family also owns Chilangos, 5621 Wansford Way in Rockford, which they’ve run for 11 years.
Tacos El Jefe has more than 20 different options for tacos on its menu, ranging from lengua to ribeye, chorizo, shrimp, chicken and fish, among others.
There are also a variety of quesadillas, tostadas, burritos and burrito bowls, tortas, fajitas, flautas, enchiladas, stuffed chili peppers, chimichangas, desserts such as tres leches cake and breakfast options including huevos a la Mexicana.
