NEW MILFORD — The largest state mountain bike racing series in North America will come to Illinois for the first time this weekend for a competition at Atwood Trails.
The Wisconsin Off-Road Series is crossing state lines for the first time in its 34-year history to host its event here, according to GoRockford. The event doubles as the Illinois Mountain Bike State Championship.
The Wisconsin Off-Road Series No. 7 Border Battle is slated to take place Saturday and Sunday at Atwood Park, 7000 Rydberg Road.
“Bringing the WORS series to Rockford is a big step in showcasing the outdoor scene Rockford has to offer,” said Kara Davis, senior sales manager for GoRockford. “We’re thrilled to bring this event to the Rockford region and showcase our thriving sports tourism community.”

The event is organized in partnership with Trek Bicycles, the Rockford Park District and GoRockford. It’s open to riders of all backgrounds and ages. GoRockford said more than 50 teams and 1,500 riders and spectators are expected. That would generate an estimated $130,000 in economic activity.
“Atwood Trails includes approximately 5 miles of multi-use natural surface trails that run right along the Kishwaukee River and provides the opportunity to incorporate silent sports into camp and residential education programming at Atwood Center,” said Steve Forss, Rockford Park District trail maintenance coordinator. “This is an exciting milestone for Atwood Trails and our community. The newest stretch of trails was developed in 2021 with adventure in mind and continues to grow in popularity, and now they’re taking center stage as we welcome riders from near and far to experience Atwood Park’s natural beauty in a whole new way.”

Cost: Free for spectators. Race registration is $45 for adults; $35 for juniors. Camping is available onsite for $15 tent/$25 RV per night or $20 tent/$30 RV for the weekend.
