ROCKFORD — Tesla and the Greater Rockford Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday to celebrate the electric vehicle company’s entry into Rockford.

The Tesla gallery at 1998 McFarland Road, which is in front Meijer, has been open since April 7. The goal is to grow the brand here so that eventually Tesla will have not just a showroom, but a location with sales, delivery and service, said Sylia Yi, general manager in Rockford.

“We’re very excited to be a part of the Rockford community and share our mission to have a more sustainable future,” Yi said.

Tesla doesn’t have traditional dealerships like other automotive companies. Instead, it has a direct sales model and uses showrooms and service centers to serve its customers.

The gallery is a space for you to see some of Tesla’s lineup and learn more about vehicles from product specialists. There aren’t salespeople. You can also use the showroom to arrange a demo drive and get assistance in placing an order. You can also setup a demo drive at Tesla.com/drive.
