ROCKFORD — Adam Rossman has become so accustomed to his work truck catching people’s eye that he started carrying stickers with him for children drawn to the bright bee mascot.

“Just yesterday, I was parked at the Walmart parking lot,” Rossman said. “I see a dad drive by with his like 4-year-old son hanging out of the back of the truck. The dad’s taking pictures, the kid’s hanging out waving.”

That’s one example of how the flashy seafoam and mulberry-colored wrap for Honeybee Roofing’s trucks have helped Rossman create a buzz for the family-run company. He said many roofing contractors default to businesses named after themselves, but his marketing research convinced him a mascot bee-longed.

“Our goal was to come up with something that seemed family friendly and memorable, and I think we did that,” he said. “I”m an optimistic guy, so the lively brand has been a lot of fun.”

On Thursday, Rossman and the Belvidere Chamber of Commerce joined for a ribbon-cutting ceremony of the company’s new office at 555 S. Perryville Road, suite 117, at the southeast corner of Perryville and East State Street in Rockford. Honeybee, which is a member of both the Belvidere and Greater Rockford chambers, had previously operated out of a home office.

“We appreciate having the presence right here at the corner of State and Perryville to let our neighbors know that we’re here in town and we’re committed to Rockford,” he said.

Honeybee Roofing is in its third season of serving the Rockford region. Rossman has worked in roofing since 2017, initially as a part of a large roofing company.

Honeybee offers residential, church and commercial roof repair with both asphalt shingles and metal roofing. They’ll also fix leaks, lifted shingles, hail damage and other issues.

The bee mascot, which Rossman plans to name with the help of fans on social media, started because he was looking for a way to incorporate his favorite color yellow into the brand. Colorwave Graphics of Loves Park helped him dial in the design and wrap the trucks and trailers.

Rossman said the company’s mission is to serve with integrity, quality, innovation and gratitude. It also gives back a portion of its proceeds toward community-building causes such as Life Decisions, a nonprofit that works to mentor youth on a path toward a healthy adulthood.

That commitment to community is another reason the bee is a fitting mascot behind the brand.

“I really like the idea how bees work together as a hive or a community to take care of each other, and we’re in business to take care of our community,” he said.
