ROCKFORD — The Rockford Rescue Mission has upgraded the beds at its crisis centers thanks to support from two local organizations and other community donors.

The Woodward Charitable Trust granted the nonprofit $10,000 to provide 64 new mattresses for the Rescue Mission’s Women’s and Children’s Crisis Center. Then, Rockford’s Meijer store donated $2,500 in gift cards for the purchase of 200 new pillows from their store for both the men’s and women’s crisis centers.

Other community donations helped the Rescue Mission purchase new sheets and pillowcases.

“A warm, safe and clean place to sleep can make a huge difference for precious people experiencing the worst time in their lives,” Sherry Pitney, Rockford Rescue Mission CEO, said in a news release. “Our Crisis Centers get heavy use year-round, so we do need to replace worn-out bedding from time to time. We are so grateful to the Woodward Charitable Trust, to Meijer and to all of our donors for helping make this happen.”

The Rescue Mission said its crisis centers are filled to near capacity most nights. It provided shelter to an average of 69 men and 61 women and children each night during its last fiscal year and served a total 1,417 people over the course of the year.
