ROCKFORD — An exhibit running through mid-May gives you a moving look at famed Impressionist artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Edgar Degas.
Impressionists: Immersive Exhibit was brought here in partnership between the Discovery Center Museum and Rockford Art Museum. It’s just the third time the exhibit has been in the United States, according to Carrie Johnson, executive director of the art museum.
“It’s very different because everything is moving,” she said. “You might be walking by a panel that’s talking about Van Gogh, but his eyes are following you.”
The exhibit runs through May 11 at Discovery Center Museum’s Woodward Hall, 711 N. Main St.
The exhibit blends art, science and history, exploring the artists styles and their influence in the art world. There are also stations for photos that put you next to 3-D images of artists or in the backdrop of famous works such as Van Gogh’s “The Starry Night.”
The main multiscreen video show surrounds you with more than 1,000 images of the artists’ work. It takes roughly 45 minutes for the video to complete.
“It’s just all screens around you and it really does immerse you into the artwork,” Johnson said. “You don’t have to move from piece to piece — it’s all around you.”
“It’s a very interesting and unique way to experience art.”
