ROCKFORD — A new community health initiative from the Islamic Circle of North America will offer free screenings and other assessments each Saturday at the center.
Shifa Clinic Rockford, 1110 Arthur Ave., will operate from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at the ICNA Rockford center alongside the group’s weekly soup kitchen.
Services include blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing, vitals assessments, general health screenings and referrals to other medical facilities when necessary. The care will be delivered by at least one physician or licensed provider with the help of two volunteers.
“Shifa Clinic aims to meet the health care needs of individuals and families who face financial or system barriers to care,” the group said in a news release.
Shifa Clinic is a volunteer-driven program. The two-hour weekly model has the potential for expansion as resources or demand increases, the group said.
