ROCKFORD — Three incumbent mayors won contested reelection bids on Tuesday in some of the key matchups around the Rockford region.

Here’s a look at results from 10 consequential contested races in the region:

Rockford mayor

Mayor Tom McNamara won a third term with a decisive victory, earning more than 78% of the vote.

Belvidere mayor

Mayor Clint Morris won a second term over former mayor Fred Brereton and independent challenger John Albertini.

Machesney Park mayor

Mayor Steve Johnson won a third term with more than 75% of the vote in Machesney Park.

Rock Valley College trustees

Incumbents Paul Gorski and Gloria Cardenas Cudia and newcomer Jenna Goldsmith, the former city of Rockford poet laureate, won a five-way race for Rock Valley College trustee.

Incumbents Nicole Bennett and Kimberly Haley won reelection.

Harlem School Board

Incumbent Evelyn Meeks and three newcomers — Diane McKinney, Kurt William Thompson and Katie Littlefield — held the lead in an 11-way race for four seats on the Harlem School Board. With 21 votes separating the the final two spots, mail-in ballots could still swing the race when results are official in two weeks.

There was only one contested races for Rockford City Council, after six seats were decided in the February primary. Karen Hoffman was reelected with 69% of the vote.

North Park Fire ambulance tax

North Park Fire Protection District’s request for a property tax increase to fund ambulance service was defeated by a little more than 60 votes, according to unofficial totals Tuesday night.
