ROCKFORD — Signs have come off the buildings at Culture Crunch as the locally owned seller of exotic snacks and other specialty items prepares to close later this month.
The business has operated for more than a year at 5846 E. State St., which is next to the former Party City, which closed at the end of February as the retailer went out of business nationwide. The last day in business for Culture Crunch is slated to be April 20. The store is offering discount sales now to clear out its inventory before then.
“We can’t thank you enough for the love and support you’ve shown us—whether you stopped in out of curiosity, became a regular, or just rooted for us from afar, you’ve been a huge part of our journey,” the company wrote on Facebook in late March. “This journey has been full of flavor, fun, and love — from exotic snacks to the incredible people we’ve met along the way. We’re beyond grateful for your support, smiles, and curiosity over the past year.”
Culture Crunch specialized in snacks from countries such as Japan, Thailand, Korea, Germany and other countries. It offered an electric mix of familiar brands with flavors you wouldn’t commonly see in the U.S.
The company said declining foot traffic and the challenging economics of running the small business in the area made it realize Rockford would no longer be the right fit for the business.
“This business has been a dream come true, and we’ve loved bringing unique, global snacks to Rockford,” a post on Facebook said. “This isn’t the ending we hoped for, but we’re proud of what we built—and forever grateful for the memories, the smiles, and the support you’ve given us.”
