ROCKFORD — The Rockford Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on Friday celebrated the simultaneous grand opening of six businesses at a renovated commercial property now called Plaza Comercial.

The multitenant property is at 4040 Charles St., and is reopening under new ownership with a focus on the real estate business. All six businesses work in conjunction with each other as a one-stop shop for realty services including everything from loans and insurance to photography, title services and home inspections.

“Rockford welcomes a new hub for innovation and collaboration with the opening of Plaza Comercial,” said Airiel Hermosillo, owner of Plaza Comercial and Smart Home Realty. “This exciting development is more than just a collection of offices, it’s a dynamic community designed to foster growth and connection for businesses of all kinds.”

The building uses the Spanish spelling of the word commercial, a reflection of the ownership and operation of the businesses.

The businesses at Plaza Comercial are:

Hermosillo’s company purchased the property from Karen Baptist Church of Rockford for $200,000 in September, according to records from the Winnebago County Clerk & Recorder’s Office. The company then began renovating the space with new paint, lighting, flooring, remodeled restrooms and other upgrades to prepare businesses to move in.

“This powerful combination creates a unique synergy, offering a valuable resource for both businesses and the Rockford community,” Hermosillo said.

There are still spaces available for more tenants, including both upstairs and downstairs offices and a salon space for a potential business or training site.

“It’s available to the community for whatever their needs are,” said Jeanette Solis of Smart Home Realty. “Plaza Comercial is here for the community to help them gather and have a place to come and do what they need to do in the business field. We’re just trying to make it work for the business community.”

In the future, Hermosillo and the Rockford Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce said they will host educational business classes and seminars to help empower entrepreneurs and foster their professional development.

“We’re committed to building a community where businesses support each other, share expertise, and contribute to the growth of Rockford,” Hermosillo said.
