LOVES PARK — A new hotel is planned for Bell School Road just west of Interstate 90, adding a fifth lodging option for travelers in that area of the city.
Hampton Inn has submitted a zoning application to build at 4170 Bell School Road, which is just north of Home2Suites by Hilton. That area is also home to Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Quality Inn & Suites and WoodSpring Suites, which is the most recent addition having opened in Dec. 6.
“The reason the area draws a lot of hotels, probably the No. 1 reason, is Sportscore Two,” said Mayor Greg Jury, who added that business travelers on weeklong or longer stays also fill local hotel rooms.
Construction on the new 94-room, four-story Hampton Inn is expected to start this summer. Developer Amit Shah, who previously brought the Home2Suites here about six years ago, said the Riverside Boulevard and Interstate 90 corridor has filled up with restaurants and retail since that time.
“Since we last built the Home2 next door, a lot of new restaurants in the Riverside corridor has been developed. There’s not much land available anymore,” he said. “We’re excited to start the project. It will be good for that corridor. Hopefully it will spur even more new development in Loves Park.”
Shah said the hotel will replace the existing Hampton Inn on State Street in Rockford, which is slated to be rebranded in the near future.

Once approved, construction of the new hotel is expected to last about two years.
