ROCKFORD — Treasure Hunt Deals will close its store at Forest Plaza this week as it prepares for a move about a mile down the road.
The bargain shopping business is leaving its home at 6309 E. State St. as Crunch Fitness prepares to take over the space for its first location in Rockford. The last day for Treasure Hunt Deals at the space will be Wednesday.
The business will then move to the former Half Price Books Outlet space at 6669 E. State St. near Gustafson’s Furniture. Half Price Books Outlet closed in April 2023 after nearly a decade in business in Rockford.
Treasure Hunt Deals will be temporarily closed until its move in is complete. No opening date for the new location has been announced.
“Stay tuned for our grand opening at the new location — we’ll be temporarily closed until then,” Treasure Hunt Deals wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. “Thank you for your support, we will see you all soon again.”
The company buys overstock and liquidation merchandise, as well as unused returns, and sells it at large discounts. The prices drop each day, going from $10 on Friday down to $1 on Wednesday, until a new shipment comes in. It’s typically closed on Thursdays for restocking.
Treasure Hunt Deals moved into the former Bed, Bath & Beyond space at Forest Plaza in late July. About six months later, Crunch Fitness announced that it would be taking over the space and undertaking a $5 million renovation for its 40,000-square-foot fitness center. Its goal is to open this summer.
Crunch Fitness offers free weights, state-of-the-art Matrix equipment, a high intensity interval training zone, turfs, and a relaxation and recovery area with UV tanning and hydromassage. There’s also a Kids Crunch area complete with a mini movie theater that offers babysitting from ages 3 months to 12 years.
The fitness center will be open 24 hours Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends.
Editor’s note: This story has been updated to correct that deals start at $10 on Fridays.
