ROCKFORD — Early voting in the April 1 election will begin Monday at Rockford and Winnebago County election offices.
Voters will pick Rockford’s mayor, Rockford School Board members, and a host of other school boards, village, city and township offices in Winnebago County.
“Early voting gives voters an opportunity to cast their ballots ahead of Election Day and avoid long lines,” Winnebago County Clerk Lori Gummow said in a news release. “We encourage all eligible residents to take advantage of this opportunity.”
For Winnebago County voters who live outside the city of Rockford, early voting takes place at the Winnebago County Clerk’s Office, 404 Elm St., fourth floor, Rockford. You can vote there from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, March 17 through Friday, March 21, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 22.
Rockford residents can vote early at the Rockford Board of Elections Office, 301 S. Sixth St. The hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday until March 31.
Grace period registration and voting also starts Monday at both locations. Grace period registration means that if you want to vote in the upcoming election but are not yet registered, you must vote on the day you register. To do so, bring two forms of ID, including one with your current address, to the election office. You must have lived at the address for 30 days prior to the election.
Polls open at 6 a.m. on Election Day on Tuesday, April 1. They close at 7 p.m. that day.
