ROCKFORD — Carpenter’s Place has announced an opening date for its newest thrift store, the second the nonprofit will run to support its mission of helping the homeless.
Carpenter’s Corner Alpine will open at 9 a.m. Friday, March 14 at 2512 S. Alpine Road, which is next to the former Save-A-Lot grocery store in the Alpine Village shopping center.
The opening comes about two years after the first Carpenter’s Corner Thrift and More opened at 1715 Rural St. in the former Schnucks and Hilander grocery store.
“This second store comes at the perfect time: when the growing needs of Rockford’s homeless and families at risk for housing, employment or just a warm meal and safe haven can only be met with additional sources of revenue,” Carpenter’s Place Executive Director Alberto Carrión said in a news release. “The expansion of our retail operation in our 25th anniversary year is a testament to our founders’ vision, the support of the community, and help from so many volunteers.”
Carpenter’s Corner offers a curated selection of gently-used clothing, jewelry, toys, household good, bicycles, books, furniture and other merchandise.
The sales help fund and expand Carpenter’s Place’s programs to serve the homeless and families facing crisis.
The nonprofit said it needed to add a second location because of the influx of donations that required more sales space. The new location will have 18,000 square feet of space and feature more than 28,000 priced pieces for sale.
Carpenter’s Corner fills space that was occupied by Eyram Furniture and Mattress. Eyram moved a few doors down to 2452 S. Alpine Road in the same shopping complex. It downsized its space to focus on mattress sales without the larger inventory of furniture in house. Furniture is still available by order.
Carpenter’s Corner Alpine will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
