ROCKFORD — Aetna Better Health of Illinois is bringing free laundry service to the city next week as part of a promotion designed to connect people to health and wellness services.

The free service will be offered from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24 at Spin World Laundromat, 1207 S. Main St., which is across from the Colman Yards development in south Rockford.

The Medicaid managed care business of Aetna is partnering with laundromats across the state to give back to underserved communities by providing essential services aimed at making healthy lifestyle choices more accessible, the organization said in a news release.

In Rockford, free laundry will coincide with health screenings, vaccine clinics and other wellness services. There will also be food insecurity programs, childhood development and literacy programs, and a book nook area for story time reading.

“This collaboration with local laundromats is helping us achieve our mission to improve the overall health of our communities,” Rushil Desai, CEO of Aetna Better Health of Illinois, said in a news release. “By providing a critical lifeline to medical care, literacy programs, and healthy foods, Aetna looks to ensure care is attainable to all.”

Free laundry service is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a limit of two laundry cycles per participating family. Free laundry is not guaranteed after 4 p.m.
