ROCKFORD — Rockford University announced on Wednesday the upcoming addition of two new master’s degree programs in its kinesiology department.
It will launch a master of science in exercise physiology and a master of arts in sports management and leadership next fall. Both courses last eight weeks.
“These two (degree programs), sports management and leadership and exercise physiology, are really geared towards the scholars (RU students) that are thinking about what’s next,” Cathy Headley, asssociate professor of the Kinesiology Department, said in a news release. “Students continuing their education here creates a legacy and commitment to Rockford University.”
Headley, who helped create both programs, said the advanced degree options may attract students to Rockford University from outside the area.
The master’s in exercise physiology is designed for people interested in advancing their careers in personal health and wellness training, health promotion and physical rehabilitation. Students who earn that degree may pursue roles such as exercise physiologists, cardiac rehabilitation specialists, clinical research assistants and physical therapy aides.
The sports management master’s degree is designed to equip students for careers including coaching, working as an athletic director, business development coordinator or athlete development specialist, to name a few options.
