ROCKFORD — Rockford Rescue Mission, 715 W. State St., will serve its annual Christmas banquet from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday. The meal is offered free for all who attend.
Mission staff members and a crew of volunteers prepare the meal each year.
“This is such a special Christmas tradition for us,” Sherry Pitney, Rockford Rescue Mission CEO, said in a news release. “Our Savior was born homeless, too. To celebrate His birth together with our guests, residents, staff and community is such a powerful reminder of His love and care for us all.”
The Rescue Mission served more than 143,275 meals this past year. It also provides more than 56,700 nights of safe shelter.
“But we can’t stop now,” Pitney said. “We must continue our outreach to our neighbors who are hurting, and find new ways to meet their growing and changing needs.”
