Chase Bank closes branch in south Rockford, opens new East State Street location

ROCKFORD — JP Morgan Chase Bank has closed a branch on the city’s south side and opened its new facility at the corner of East State Street and Mulford Road.

The Chase Bank at 4425 Harrison Ave. closed on Dec. 6, and the signs on the facility have now been removed.

The closure came a few days ahead of the Dec. 9 opening of a 4,600-square-foot, single-story bank with a drive-thru and drive-up ATM at 6001 E. State St., which replaces the branch that was across the street.

“The new branch features a modern design, layout and more state-of-the-art banking technology and services to better serve the Rockford community,” Chase Bank representatives said in an email response to the Rock River Current.

The new branch was built across the street from its previous location in a building it shared with Rasmussen University and other tenants.

The new branch filled a lot that had been vacant since 2014, when the shuttered Royal Dragon restaurant was torn down.

The Harrison Avenue branch was built in 1986, according to Winnebago County property records. The office building is now listed for sale.

“We continue to optimize our branch network as customers’ needs evolve,” Chase representatives wrote in an email. “Our goal is to have the right branches in the right communities to serve the financial needs of our diverse customers.”

Chase Bank also operates local branches at 3699 N. Main St., 7997 N. Alpine Road in Loves Park and 11440 Main St. in Roscoe.
