ROCKFORD — Assistant State’s Attorney Scott P. Robinson has been named as the next resident circuit judge in Winnebago and Boone counties.
Robinson, who has worked as a prosecutor in the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office for the past two years, fills the vacancy created by the appointment of Justice Eugene Doherty to the Appellate Court of Illinois. Robinson will begin his role on the bench Dec. 4 and serve through Dec. 7, 2026.
“Mr. Robinson’s demonstrated devotion to the rule of law, community involvement, and unique professional and personal history have all prepared him to serve in the important role judges play in our society,” Justice Lisa Holder White said in a news release.
Holder White and the Illinois Supreme Court announced Robinson’s selection Tuesday to serve in the 17th Judicial Circuit, Second Subcircuit. He’ll be sworn in at 4 p.m. Dec. 4 in Courtroom A of the Winnebago County Criminal Justice Center, 650 W. State St.
Aside from his time as a prosecutor here, Robinson has also worked as a Pretrial Fairness Act contract attorney for the Illinois Office of the State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor since 2023. He was previously an associate attorney at the Law Offices of Robert S. Gitmeid and Associates and at McGreevy Williams. He also spent three years as an assistant state’s attorney in the Ogle County State’s Attorney’s Office and nine years as a teacher at Hononegah High School.
“It has been a blessing and a privilege to serve my community as both a lawyer and a teacher, and I am honored beyond words to have been selected to serve as a circuit judge,” Robinson said in a news release. “I want to thank the selection committee and Justice Holder White for this opportunity. I also want to thank my family, teachers, and mentors for everything they have done for me. I vow to discharge my duties with humility, compassion, and a deep respect for both the law and the dignity of those who will appear before me.”
Robinson earned his bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University and his juris doctor from the University of Illinois College of Law.
He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association.
