ROCKFORD — Twisted Crypt Haunted House, 5420 E. State St., will kick off its 11th season with a fitting debut date: Friday the 13th.
The spooky seasonal attraction centers around the stories of the sadistic characters of “the family,” who lurk around the corners of the haunted house. There are more than 40 characters this year roaming the roughly 10,000-square-foot space filled with strobe lights, fog, gore and other special effects.
The haunted house opens at 7 p.m. Friday and runs weekends through Nov. 2, with special hours on Halloween.
Twisted Crypt was recognized as one of the Top 10 haunted houses in the state by HauntedIllinois.com last year, as well as in 2016, 2019 and 2021. It was also voted as one of the state’s 10 best haunted houses in the visitor’s choice voting at HauntedIllinois.com in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Twisted Crypt Productions was founded in 2013 by Rockford natives Peter Dunn and Matt Johnson.
Both Dunn an Johnson are graduates of Boylan Catholic High School who have had a passion for Halloween scares since they were teenagers. Both continue to work and live in the Rockford area.
