ROSCOE — Mary’s Market has reopened its cafe on Bluestem Road with a revamped interior look and refreshed menu after spending more than two years closed.

The cafe at 4866 Bluestem Road reopened Monday after months of preparation, including interior remodeling and resurfacing of the parking lot. Mary’s Market announced the cafe’s return Wednesday on social media, and it plans a grand opening with the Stateline Chamber of Commerce later this month.

“We’re really happy to have it back in the community again,” said Linda Hornbeck of Rockton, who had lunch at the cafe on Wednesday. “Ever since it closed, we’ve missed it in the area.”

Mary’s Market closed its Roscoe cafe in February 2022 as it struggled with staffing shortages in the aftermath of the pandemic. The space remained in use for catering and special events.

The company hired an interior designer and listened to customer feedback on menu items as it reconfigured the space for the reopening.

“We really took a long-term, serious approach to it,” said Miralem Botic, marketing director for Mary’s Market. “We want to make sure we do it right.”

The drive-thru option will return to soon.

“We are incredibly excited to reopen our doors in Roscoe and serve the community that has shown us so much support over the years,” Botic said. “Our team has worked tirelessly to create a dining establishment that honors our history while offering something new and exciting for our guests. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back.”

Featured items on the menu Wednesday included crab cake dinner with a savory remoulade sauce. It’s served with mashed potatoes and chef vegetables.

Some of the breakfast features include croque madame, which is sliced ham with Swiss cheese, white cheddar cheese sauce, and an egg served any style on house-baked sourdough bread.

There are also vegan sweet potato tacos, chorizo breakfast tacos, omelettes and a variety of skillets, to name a few options.

Brienne Filimonov of Rockton said she’s long been a fan of Mary’s Market’s scones and pastries.

“It’s great to have another place to eat at with great food and pastries,” she said of the cafe’s reopening.

Lunch options include a Monte Cristo, Mary’s Market BLT, barbecue pulled pork and soups and salads, among multiple other items.

Mary’s Market also has cafes at 2636 McFarland Road, which is just off Perryville Road in Rockford, and 4431 E. State St. in Rockford. Its location in the Edgebrook Shopping Center also closed in 2022. That space is now Sonny’s Place restaurant.

Julia Heinzeroth, who stopped in Mary’s Market on Wednesday for lunch with a friend, said they’ve missed having the cafe in their community. She said it’s the quality of the food that stands out.

“You order something and it’s done right,” she said. “It’s exciting to see it open again.”
