ROCKFORD — Rockford Public Schools will host a districtwide hiring event on Wednesday as it looks to fill about 100 jobs across a multitude of roles.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon at the East High School Fieldhouse, 2929 Charles St.

The event is part of the district’s annual summertime push to hire more workers as the school year approaches. Students head to class on Aug. 28 this year.

The district is looking to hire paraprofessionals, bus drivers, school support, classroom teachers, substitutes, nurses, nutrition services, maintenance, security, aides and administrative professional support roles.

“We want to encourage anybody from the community, anybody who might potentially be thinking about looking for work, or who has ever even thought about what it might be like to work for the school district, to come visit us,” said Jason Pope, the district’s director of recruitment.

The district employs more than 4,000 people, including more than 2,000 teachers, making it the largest employer in the city.

“We’ll help individuals navigate that process, connect them with different hiring managers there, then do the application process and hopefully walk out with a job,” Pope said. “Within the school district we have a ton of opportunity for growth, whether you have experience or you’re just looking to get your foot in the door to start, we’ll help you navigate that.”
