LOVES PARK — The city’s Water Department has been recognized by the American Water Works Association Illinois Section with its highest-level designation for keeping the public informed about its efforts to deliver safe water.
The department has been awarded the 2024 Water Ambassador Community Gold Level Award, which was presented to members of the department Monday night.
“What we do is provide our city with drinking water, delivering it right to tap,” Russ Caveny, the department’s water production lead, said in a statement. “The Water Ambassador program increased our department’s confidence and gave us resources to help show the public what we do daily.”

The Water Ambassador program is an educational initiative designed to increase the knowledge and public awareness of water departments. The Gold Level Award signifies exceptional dedication to providing safe, high-quality drinking water to the community.
This is the first time the city has received the Gold Level Award.
“Russ told me he wanted to take time this year to acquire the silver status to help inform our department and get us up to speed on providing top-notch water to our residents, but the overachiever and hard worker he is, here we are with the gold level award in our hands today,” Craig McDonald, water department manager, said in a post on social media.
