ROCKFORD — The Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau‘s latest digital passport program challenges you to find adventure across the region.

The Rockford Adventure Trail is a new mobile pass that allows you to check-in at more than 30 area attractions and earn points that can be redeemed for prizes. The check-in spots range from forest preserves and parks to museums and sports complexes.

The goal for the visitors bureau is to drive people to local attractions and showcase the variety of activities the region has to offer.

“Programs like the Rockford Adventure Trail are fantastic for both visitors and residents in the region,” Kristen Paul, executive vice president of the visitors bureau, said in a news release. “They provide a fun and interactive way for people to explore our local attractions and support the businesses that make Rockford unique.”

To participate, go to gorockford.com/adventuretrail to register and add the passport to your mobile device. Then, you simply go to a participating attraction or business and check-in using geolocation. The passport also offers information about each location and contact information.

Each check-in is worth 100 points, and points can be redeemed for prizes such as an adventure trail sticker, Rockford water bottle and Rockford belt bag. There will also be additional giveaways and surprise prizes throughout the summer.

New signups will automatically be entered to win a gift basket with passes and merchandise for the Burpee Museum of Natural History. The contest ends July 31.

“This digital passport program not only drives foot traffic to local businesses and attractions, but it also encourages community engagement and showcases the diversity of experiences available in the Rockford region,” John Groh, president and CEO of the visitors bureau. “We’re looking forward to seeing residents and visitors participating in this adventure experience and enjoying everything our community has to offer.

“At the heart of the program, we focus on all things that are local to the Rockford region. That is a priority for us and integrated in the entire experience right down to the iconic logo, paying homage to our beloved Jane, the famous juvenile T-rex located at Burpee Museum.”

This is the third digital passport from the visitors bureau. The existing programs are the Rockford Public Art Trail and Rockford Pizza Hop.
