ROCKFORD — Today is the last day of business for the Save-A-Lot grocery store at the corner of Alpine and Harrison roads.

The store at 2514 S. Alpine Road is clearing out as much of its inventory as possible before the rest is sent to its location at 1701 W. State St. Shelves were largely empty Monday morning as the store clears out remaining boxed and canned goods and other packaged foods. Anything left is 50% off.

Signs are also directing customers to the State Street location after the closure.

The Alpine Village Center Save-A-Lot opened in February 2015, a little less than a year after the Schnucks that operated in the same space closed. Schnucks also closed its Rural Oaks location at the same time.

The Alpine Village shopping center is owned by Midland Management of Milwaukee. The company could not be reached immediately today. However, Ned Brickman, the founder Midland Management, previously told the Register Star he was negotiating with potential operators of an ethnic grocery store in the space. We’ll provide an update if we hear back from him.
