ROCKFORD — The Winnebago County Mental Health Board announced on Wednesday nearly $52 million in funding for 41 mental health and substance abuse programs over the next three years.
That amount could rise to $60 million because several one-year funding awards have renewal options. The money for the programs comes from the half-cent sales tax for mental health that voters approved in March 2020.

The board awarded 13 proposals one year of funding totaling $3,722,364. An additional 28 programs were awarded three years of funding totaling $48,039,852.
Among the new recipients is Marshmallow’s Hope, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing youth, veteran and first responder suicide. Another is Brooke Road United Methodist Church, which will run a family and community wellness response program.
The board said its top funding priorities include mental health treatment, case management, crisis response services, family and community support, housing and client outreach.
