ROCKFORD — There were few contested races Tuesday as voters headed to the polls locally to choose their parties’ candidates for office come November.

Here’s a look at unofficial results on contested local matchups and ballot questions. These are the results updated as of 8:20 a.m. Wednesday. Results remain unofficial until they are certified two weeks after the election.

The general election happens Tuesday, Nov. 5.

South Beloit sales tax

Shall the city of South Beloit impose a 1% retailers’ and service occupation tax (commonly referred to as a sales tax) for expenditure on public roadway infrastructure?

Dissolve Boone County Fire Protection District No. 5

Shall Boone County Fire Protection District No. 5 dissolve and be consolidated into North Boone Fire Protection District No. 3?

17th Congressional District

Republican primary

Retired Judge Joe McGraw defeated Scott Crowl to win the Republican nomination, the Associated Press projected. McGraw will face Congressman Eric Sorensen, a Democrat who was unopposed in the primary. The 17th District is a C-shaped territory that includes parts of Rockford west into Stephenson County as well as the Quad Cities, Galesburg and Bloomington.

11th Congressional District

Democratic primary

Incumbent Congressman Bill Foster of Naperville defeated challenger Qasim Rashid in the Democratic primary, the AP projected. He will face Republican Jerry Evans, who won a three-way race, in November. The 11th District covers area west of Chicago that includes Boone and DeKalb counties.
