‘She was dedicated to helping people’: Machesney Park Village Clerk Robbin Snodgrass has died

MACHESNEY PARK — Village Clerk Robbin Snodgrass, a longtime public servant who also helped the homeless through her work with the Rockford Rescue Mission, died Tuesday after a brief illness. She was 61.

The village announced her death on Wednesday.

Prior to serving as clerk, Snodgrass served two terms as a trustee in District 1 from 2005-2009 and 2013-2017. Snodgrass had also served as a mentor at the Rockford Pregnancy Care Center, was an event coordinator at Rock Valley College, volunteered with Golden Apple Foundation and worked as a volunteer coordinator for the Rockford Rescue Mission, among other roles with the nonprofit helping the area’s homeless.

“She was there for anyone. She would talk to them and try to help everyone. That’s just how she was,” Machesney Park Mayor Steve Johnson said in a phone interview. “She was dedicated to helping people. Whatever she could do; that was her nature: helping people in the community.”

She was a 1979 Harlem High School graduate and a graduate of Rock Valley College and Judson University.

Johnson said Snodgrass was committed to excellence and professional development. She was an active member of the Northwestern Illinois Municipal Clerk’s Association, and served as its vice president.

“Robbin’s passing is a tremendous loss for the village of Machesney Park,” Johnson said in a news release announcing her death. “During this time of mourning, we honor Robbin for her unwavering dedication to our community.”

Snodgrass leaves behind her husband, Rick, two children, Rachel and Ryan, and two grandchildren, Anna and Cameron.

Memorial services

Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, May 20 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8801 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park. There will be a visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

There will be a private inurnment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Robbin’s name to the Rockford Rescue Mission.
