ROCKFORD — Hundreds of youth volleyball players will compete this weekend in the 2023 Amateur Athletic Union Rockin’ Rockford Grand Prix.
The two-day tournament, which is in its fifth year in Rockford, is expected to draw 5,000 total visitors to the region and pump an estimated $841,000 into the local economy, according to the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
“This tournament will certainly have a ripple effect on the entire community with folks booking room nights in our area hotels, supporting local businesses and venturing out to do fun things in their spare time,” Lindsay Arellano, vice president of sales and service for the visitors bureau, said in a news release. “We hope everyone enjoys their time and has an unbeatable experience.”

There are 222 teams registered ranging from 10 and under to 18 and under. The tournament will take place Saturday and Sunday at the UW Health Sports Factory, 305 S. Madison St., Rockford and the Mercyhealth Indoor Sports Center, 8800 E. Riverside Blvd., Loves Park.
“We are always thrilled to host the Rockin’ Rockford AAU tournament and make sure that guests are well taken care of while visiting Rockford Park District facilities,” said Derek Papich, the Rockford Park District’s manager of Mercyhealth Sportscore complexes. “This time, in addition to the UW Health Sports Factory, the AAU tournament will utilize Mercyhealth Sportscore Two which will allow for even more athletes to compete and come together for their common love of volleyball.”
