ROCKFORD — Crusader Community Health is developing plans to expand with a new primary care facility on the city’s south end.
The health care provider purchased more than six acres of land at the northeast corner of Alpine and Linden roads in late February for its next facility. The 50-year-old organization is in the preliminary stages of planning construction.
“We know we need to continue to grow,” said Sam Miller, president and CEO of Crusader Community Health. “We need to continue to service more and more in the community.”

The property is just off the U.S. 20 Bypass, providing access for south-side residents and clients coming from places such as Pecatonica, Winnebago or Belvidere, Miller said.
“It has a good draw point from the rural community, too,” he said. “It’s just an easy place to get to, which is what we were focused on.”

Miller said it is likely 18 months to two years away from opening.
“That date could move further out,” he said. “We’re not that far along where we’re ready to commit to a groundbreaking.”

Crusader paid $500,000 to Oreo LLC for the land, according to records from the Winnebago County Clerk & Recorder’s Office.
“We know there’s a need for primary care on the south side of Rockford, particularly down by the bypass,” Miller said. “It was a good opportunity. We liked where the land was located. We liked the size.”
Crusader, which serves more than 59,000 people each year from across the region, has five clinic locations and three school-based centers.
“We’ll be expanding what we do in the community with the goal to continue to reach out and serve more people in need,” Miller said.
