‘A great staple’: Greenwich Village Art Fair marks 74th year in Rockford

ROCKFORD — The longest running art fair of its kind in the Midwest took over Riverfront Museum Park this weekend.
The 74th Greenwich Village Art Fair featured juried artists, live music, children’s art activities, vendors selling all types of art and handmade crafts, food trucks, cocktails and other activities. It was held outdoors at the museum park, which includes the Rockford Art Museum, 711 N. Main St.

“We’re really proud of this fair,” Carrie Johnson, executive director of the art museum, said in an interview on This Week in the Stateline before the event. “This is the longest running art fair in the Midwest, and it’s just a great staple. We love hearing how people have been going there since they were kids.”
The Greenwich Village Art Fair was established in 1948, and all proceeds from admission to the event benefitted the Rockford Art Museum.

New to this year’s fair was an expanded footprint that brought the festival across the riverwalk onto the outside campus of Burpee Museum of Natural History. Artists had their work on display outside Burpee and live music filled its amphitheater.
