Nearly $8M in mental health sales tax dollars to go toward extending programs

ROCKFORD — The Winnebago County Community Mental Health Board will allocate nearly $8 million to extend the operation of 10 programs it awarded funding to a year ago.

The board received 34 applications totaling $18.3 million for funding in its upcoming grant cycle, which covers June 1 through May 30, 2023. It has a total of $15 million available to distribute for that time period.

On Wednesday it released the list of agencies and programs that will have funding extended. It expects to release its new funding program decisions on May 4.

The Winnebago County Community Mental Health Board is responsible for distributing proceeds of a half-cent sales tax voters overwhelmingly supported in March 2020. The goal is to plan, implement and monitor mental health and addiction services for Winnebago County residents.

The Winnebago County Mental Health Board will fund these programs totaling $7,961,209.02. The funding is contingent upon finalization of formal agreements and work plans.
