To help combat the nationwide blood shortage, Krispy Kreme is giving away free donuts and coffee.
The closest one is about a 45 minutes drive from Rockford, but this week the doughnut chain will give away a dozen original glazed donuts to people that donate blood to the American Red Cross.
The American Red Cross has seen a 10% decrease in donations since the start of the pandemic, and The Rock River Valley Blood Center says it needs to see 800 donors a week to meet the demand.

Customers have to order in-person at a Krispy Kreme location and show their donation sticker or confirmation of their donation on the Red Cross blood donor app to score their free donuts or coffee.

Through Jan. 31, if you donate to other blood donation organizations that will also qualify for the free dozen of donuts.
