COVID hospitalizations decrease in Rockford for third straight week

ROCKFORD — The number of people hospitalized with symptoms of the coronavirus in Rockford has fallen for a third straight week after reaching an all-time high earlier this month.
There were 162 people hospitalized in the city’s three hospitals – Mercyhealth, SwedishAmerican and OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center – as of Thursday evening, according to the Winnebago County Health Department. That is seven fewer than a week ago and nearly 60 fewer than the peak numbers reported.

The trend in Rockford matches what has happened across the state. There were 4,533 people hospitalized with COVID in the state as of Thursday, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. That has fallen 38% from the peak of 7,353.
