ROCKFORD — Auburn High School has reconsidered its ban on hooded clothing, saying students will be allowed to wear hoodies so long as the hood remains down in the building.
The ban on hooded sweatshirts, hats or any other types of headwear was announced Friday as part of several new protocols put in place after a shooting on campus.
A day later school administrators reversed course after hearing complaints from parents and at least one school board member.
A note was sent to parents Saturday clarifying the change:
“Dear parents,
Thank you for your feedback and support of our safety policies. We value your collaboration and partnership in helping us prioritize student safety. In response to your suggestions we are making an adjustment to our protocols that begin on Monday. We will allow students to wear hoodies as long as the hood remains down. If a student has their hood on their head, they will be swept to door C for a consequence.
Thank you,
Auburn Administration”
Other safety changes the school put into place included prohibiting students from leaving school grounds during school hours, reinforcing its rules that prohibit electronics in classrooms, and a requirement that students actively display their student ID at all times on campus.
