ROCKFORD — Nikolas Ritschel, who was diagnosed with cancer just before his 18th birthday, was granted a wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation that sparked a desire to help other young adults get their wishes granted.
When he realized that people over the age of 17 didn’t qualify, he told his mom that he wanted to help older kids to get their wishes too; and the Nikolas Ritschel Foundation was born.
The foundation helps 18-24 year olds fighting cancer all across the country, not just here in the Rockford area. Nik’s wish is supported 100% through monetary donations and the tireless efforts of volunteers.
Unfortunately, there is a long list of young people waiting for their wish. They have been diagnosed cancers such as Hodgkin’s lymphoma to ovarian cancer, colon cancer and leukemia.
Wishes range from a new gaming system, a trip to Disney with their families, fishing in Alaska or riding a horse for the first time. You can help these wonderful people make their dreams come true by sharing your time and volunteering, or simply making a donation to the cause.
You can find more information about Nik’s Wish and see the biographies and photos of the candidates that have yet to receive their wish by clicking here.
