ROCKFORD — Mayor Tom McNamara on Wednesday will declare Dec. 1 as Virgil Abloh Day in the city of Rockford to recognize the late fashion designer’s influence here and across the world.
Abloh, a Rockford native who became one of the world’s most influential designers, died Sunday after a private two-year battle with an aggressive form of cancer. He was 41.

Abloh, a 1998 graduate of Boylan High School, continued to give back to his former school and city after finding success as a designer. He was the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s wear and the founder of his own company, Off-White. In 2018, Abloh was named one of Time’s 100 most influential people in the world.
