BELOIT — The Beloit Police Department is mourning the death of Officer Daniel J. Daly, who died today due to complications from COVID-19. He was 48.

Daly was sworn in as a Beloit police officer on March 3, 1997, and was a member of the department’s field training officer cadre. He is survived by his wife and two children.

“Our entire Beloit Police Department family mourns the passing of Officer Dan Daly,” Beloit Police Chief Andre Sayles said in a statement. “Our love and condolences go out to Dan’s wife and children and all those with whom he served. We, as a police department family, will do everything possible to continue to provide support and comfort to Dan’s family. Dan will be missed by everyone here.”

Rockford police, along with Beloit officers and other law enforcement, will escort Daly’s body from UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford to Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates funeral home in Beloit.

Starting around 6 p.m., the procession will move north on Ninth Street to North Second Street to Forest Hills Road and then onto Illinois 173 and Interstate 90 toward Beloit.

Funeral arrangements with law enforcement honors are pending. The department said no further information would be released.
